New home!

After blogging for at least two years, i think and 52 posts i believe its time for change....
Find me here!
Hope you follow me to my new home.

Korosho, maji na soda!

Disclaimer: Written during intake of vodoski, grammatical errors shall not be held against me. Likely to go around in circles saying nothing in particular.

I had never traveled to coast by bus before and it was an experience i wanted to have (just one of those things). The few previous times i had been down to the coast were by matatu or by a personal car which were damn uncomfy but fun all the same if coupled by some alcohol. This time though it was at night and in a bus with some other three good friends, barely 2 months after my last fully intoxicated stay at the coast(see previous post).
Madd planning had to go into this trip, like i had to make sure my Ipod was fully charged for the trip, check! Had to take a nice long meal before getting on the bus, check! Had to go pee pee and make sure bowel movement wouldnt come at the wrong time on the ride down. Kinda felt like Sheldon in Big bang theory a nerdy TV series!
Did i like the bus ride down? Hell no! I couldnt sleep. the bus was damn noisy! Mind you it was a new bus a KBE in fact with reclining chairs and a futuristic design that looked like Flintstones car (the irony!). Air con that really dint work and reading lights that dint really light, and thus i was left to my own thoughts which is not a good thing at all! Cause i end up building nice scenarios where im cruising down the highway in my new Range Rover vouge, which will not happen as soon as i would like it to :-). Plus i couldnt consume any alcohol, company regulations plus where would i dispose of the waste?

Ok im ranting *looking at the level of bottle of vodoski*

Where was I, oh yes, soon and very soon we were halfway there, Mtito a ndei! Around 2 am and the place was a bee hive of activity, there were so many busses there, twould have put Total Motor show to shame! Traders selling everything from Maasai shukas to mishkakis! Awesome i tell you Kenyans are awesome. It was at voi on the way back that i was pulled back from slumber land where i had momentarily gained admittance with ,the for lack of a better word, a loud croaking voice "Korosho, maji na soda"! I was abiut to hurl an empty bottle of soda at the intruder who turned out to be a guy hawking Cashew nuts (korosho) which sounded to me at first like an insult, forgive me i was tired, sleepy and grumpy having just broken up with my girlfriend, who happened to be sitting right next to me!
All the same i was intrigued at what it was they were making a big fuss about so i stopped one of them to find out what exactly Korosho was, turned out to be the tastiest cashew nuts ive ever eaten!

In light of recent ocuurences im feeling in the mood of change maybe some new loook blog template or something or a fresh start, im yet to decide, ill weigh my options...

Come back?

Its been ages since i blogged, i donno what happened. Maybe its cause of twitter, maybe its cuz i lacked time to type up posts or i just ran out of things to say...at least on the blog i did.

I met up with some friends a while back, and could not help but realise just how different we are, questions started poping up, am i the one whos changed or have they? And most importantly what the hell do we have in common anymore other than the shared past?

Other Business
Sibbie i semi promise this is the last post about alcohol!
About two months ago, my freinds and i rented a matatu and headed out to the coast for a long weekedn we had planned fro months before hand. As in ages, of saving and scrapping enough coins (at least on my part) to pay for a crazy 96hrs of coast awsomness! Dday arrives and wer all packed into the loud matatu vibrations from the woofer loud enough to be heard a kilometer down the road. Inside every available space is occupied by some luggage or some form of alocohol. We had just two crates of beer and what must have been 4 cartons of Vodka, Brandy and Sambuka and 10 litres of some spiked punch. Clearly this was shaping up to be one of the best ever trips.

On our way down to the coast, i dozed off having raved all of the previous night and woke up to have been plaited matutas (no idea what that is in English, translate please). Point is i woke up looking like Medusa. Now i love my 'fro and under normal circumstances NO ONE touches my 'fro, but we were on our way to the coast so wat the hell yeah? :-) An hour into the trip and we had already finished a whole two crates of beer and starting on the 'makalis' (bitter ones) :-)
By the end of the weekend i was literally shaking at home, going through withdrawal symptoms, it was so bad i honestly thought i had gotten malaria, all worth it though!

I shall not expose much of what happened at the coast as it would be self incriminating, but lets just say i had the maddest fun i have ever had! Drinking games where we took neat vodka from the bottle, on the beach, by the pool, on our way to malindi....

Speaking of beach, i am sooo damn unfit! I played beach soccer for like half an hour and i was totally out! As in dead! Half year resolution.....get in shape!

There goes my last post about alcohol :-(

The MIT experience......

Ive been attending a training at Strathmore University organized and run by MIT students under a program called Africa Information Technology Initiative(AITI) for the past six weeks. In the six weeks ive learned alot of Java, and J2me and using that ill go ahead and do some Android. I must say that these past six weeks have been the craziest, most wonderful of my 3 years or so of coding. There was something very wrong with Kenyan way of teaching or i just was not keen enough then. Michael Gordon, the president of AITI, lectured so well that if you dint get a point then you must have been dozing, cause clearly you have no other reason! The personal attention Zach, Michelle, Julian and Cory gave to everyone was incredible and much thanks to you, if you happen to come across this blog. :-). It may sound cliche, but the last month and a half has been a life altering experience.

Time flies when you having fun and indeed, the past six weeks have whizzed by.

Honest scrap awards

The honest scrap award, bestowed upon me by Ourkid joyunspeakable and Sibbie the newbie to my blog, welcome lots. Sorry to disappoint you guys but mez just as simple and straight forward as they come, plain old Ngare!

Where to start where to start?

1. I smile alot, even blush sometimes, i try to deny this and hide it but it never works! I blame it on some girls who claim i have a sweet smile which makes me, yes you guessed it smile even more! Though smiling i may be thinking damn you boring or go away, i dont have much of a temper.

2. On my worst of days im extremely sarcastic, extremely! To a point where my female cousin retorted after an onslaught of sarcastic comments "You can drive someone to go to K-street and become a prostitute". Well in my defense i was preparing her to face the cruel cruel world out there :-) I call it dark Humor.

3. Alcohol? Why thank you!! My daddy told me, if someone insults you by offering you a drink, swallow the insult! I drink a bit but have it under control, nothing as bad as bad as becoming an alcoholic! Or you know addicted to anything really.

4. I love music, really do. But soft soft music mushy mellow and slow that does it for me, so basically no noisy stuff like crunk et al. well maybe when im tipsy. Due to my 'unusual' taste i never go and try control the music when we are many pals together :-)

5.I put waaay too much sugar in tea and waay to much salt in food and i like it! If you tell me about dying, my response why live a life you don't enjoy living?

6. Im argumentative, i love arguing about anything and everything as long as whoever im arguing with doesn't take it personally im good to go! Even with the least of facts, how convincing i am on the other hand is debatable....anyone?

7. Some girls ive realized assume that i am a player, how they come to that conclusion i have no idea and if it were possible i would sue their asses for libel cuz im sure they texted that around. Am i a player? Short answer...NO!!!

8. Im a hopeless romantic, romantic movies, songs scenarios always floating around in my mind.

9. I believe im approachable and friendly considering no. 1 above, so i have many many many acquaintances but very very few friends who i can positively count on and they can count on me as well as taking a bullet for!

10. Sex....considering my father may be reading this id like to invoke my 5th amendment right to remain silent as anything i say shall and will be used in the court that is my father! :-)

You see plain and simple!
Now to tag some people....cutting grass, Maua, Antipop, Miano, Tandra, Candybox, Neema Divine. Kazi kwenyu!

Last weekend

I am the best procrastinator, ever! Its surprising how ive been able to make it this far in my career as a student, why lie! In a week long of study leave ive read more bill boards, tweets, beer labels, posters and status updates than I have read my class notes. That would be because I dont have that many class notes but then again whos asking?
So now before I go back to reading in an hour or so (see wat I mean!?), I had the craziest weekend!
Not crazy in the traditional sense that I enjoyed every last bit of it but crazy on a whole new level not apparent before to me. For starters went for a rugby tournament almost 6hours late to find the last game for the day about to start. And the worst part was that there was only Heineken on offer, I dont drink that shit, plus twas warm!!! Uuurgh! Oh well I had to drink something dint I!? So I took two cans which were bloody expensive! Anyway, the only thing I like about rugby is the tackles I had rudimentary knowledge on the rules and my many nagging questions jazz my pal, but who cares! Kuuliza si ujinga.
So night falls and all my pals are either mteja (unavailable), home ground, or upcountry. Oh yeah twas Easter....
First plan was to get some alcohol and slowly consume it in the parking lot of Nakumatt Ukay while listening to some sounds in the car....alone. Unfortunately ukay was packed to the brim, so change of plan, checked in to Velvet which was as empty as our politicians cranium. This was turning to a bad night at only 10pm and was considering going home at this point....i should have!
Some of my pals were along Kiambu road at a 'local'. I was hesitant at first about going all the way but I decided aint no way im going home tonight! Fifteen minutes later I was seated outside a lil bar with some noisy crazy friends shoving shot after shot down my throat of the various poisons on the table, soon i was shoving them down myself!
Needless to say, soon there was a total black out!
Ended up waking up in the K1 parking lot 5 hours later shaking like a leaf from the cold. Cursing under my breath cuz I had wasted the night and also missed to ogle at the School girl like clad waitresses in Pitch and butch(bestest joint ever!!) :-)
It is on my drive home that I came to the clear and distinct conclusion that alcohol is bad!
Well that was until the following evening after the wearing off of the hangover and adjusted my hypothesis to: Alcohol is bad! Except Tusker....:-)

Ok back to reading! Uuurgh!

Be right back!

Due to unavoidable circumstances, the quick succession of posts has come to a sudden and screeching halt. I blame school for that!
Starting to do exams soon, the part about school i really hate! To pass this semester without a re-seat will need nothing short of a miracle, so fingers crossed!
Be right back :-)

Rewind!

I was sitting back the other day thinking of what I have gone through my short life, reminiscing on the good days and wondering what lay ahead. Out of the small number of relationships Ive had the pleasure of having, one stands out,a head above the rest. Reason being the intensity, the duration or the timing I will never quite understand....
Fresh out of high school, ready to see the world, I emerged. Only to find myself in an institution that was quite similar to high school only difference being that they didn't have a bell to signify the end of lectures! None the less I was happy to be in a different environment and to learn new things and meet new people. And new people I did meet. My eyes for obvious reasons rested on this light soft spoken girl who seemed to keep to herself and yet speak to everyone. Needless to say I was fascinated. This girl captured my imagination without uttering a word, either she was extremely gorgeous or I really lacked imagination, I can put money on the former.
I believe I wasn't very discrete in my gawking and ogling and she must have noticed my obvious interest as we soon started talking and became inseparable in more ways than one, i would think. As hard as it is to drown the light from the sun so was it to hide the fondness we had for each other, so sweet is love discovered and love returned. I woke up with a wonderful feeling knowing I was going to see her as soon as I stepped into class, and as sure as the world is round, she made my day. It was as though she knew what I was thinking when she looked into my eyes, she could always tell my bluffs which made it arguing with her impossible. Combined with her intelligence and will, I was no match, and yet I often won for she let me win like a mule following a carrot on a stick further on she led me and deeper still I followed, head over heels I fell. Her simplicity intrigued me, her intelligence amazed me and her don't care attitude inspired me. I was brought alive whenever I was with her, the time we spent unforgettable the feelings I felt unfathomable.
As the old adage goes, every good thing comes to an end, my castles in the air came crashing down. The inviting smiles turned to blank stares and my phone went deathly silent. A stark difference as clear as a sunny day is from a rainy night came to the fore and I knew it was over. It was good while it lasted, it was great. Weeks, months even years on, I still collect shattered pieces of a heart once whole and full of love with the firm belief that soon, very soon it shall be whole again to achieve a love even greater and hopefully more lasting than before. Such is the state of the world, you have to keep moving on forth....

Questions, just questions.........

Damn! As I sit here im trying to write an article for the school mag and im beginning to think that its hopeless considering the ammount of time I have before this shit goes to print! Oh and yeah I cant write anything I wanna write cuz its, well an article for a Catholic run magazine university, yup! That sucks! Good thing im not planing to be a journalist cause that would definitely flop! Man Tony, good work!

So I decided to take a break and blog a lil bit and hopefully that will make the creative juices start flowing!

The other day I found myself doing quite a bit of thinking and I just thought of the few girls ive had the pleasure and opportunity to date and the trials and tribulationts my short life has laid me bare to experience, and come to the conclusion that a girl is not likely to hurt me as ive been hurt before as long as im not married yet. This, in my opinion, is a curse as well as a blessing. Think about it, whatever a girl may do, my feelings would still be intact and thus would be able to move on with little to none heartbreak and pain, on the other hand a girl who i would be referring to as dating would not be as close as she ought to be in life since I would be afraid of getting hurt. So bringing me back to the question, is it better to lay your heart bare, and fully trust and lay your everything on the one you 'love' and hope that she/he will not rip your trust into shreds? Or build a fort around you and hope someone hangs around long enough for you to let your guard down?

AOB
We have a cute and lovely dog (snoopy) at home, shes all fluffy and hairy and only sheen high, who belongs to my kid brother. The kind of joy and excitement that she greets you with when you come home in the evening is overwhelming! No matter what you did to her the previous day, be it you refused to give her your piece of chicken or you had to send her out to the kennels in the evening she will still jump all over you like she has amnesia despite her extreme intelligence. She gives one such a rousing welcome that one feels loved and welcome back home after a tiring day out there in the cruel cruel world. What am I rambling on about? Why cant chicks be so welcoming? Not nagging with all the questions and all? Not saying you act like a dog but you get my drift dont you?

Let the barrage of insults begin............

Rapid Response!!

I must say Nairobians and Kenyans in general never cease to amaze me, never mind the brainless politician, the mum president, wreckless drivers and daring thieves but the common mwananchi!
A few weeks ago i was walking down Kenyatta avenue from the ICEA building when i came across a large grouping of hardworking Kenyans staring at the cfc stanbic bank. My alert level was raised when i noticed a few blue boys ready and armed to exchange fire walking around the bank. Obviously there was something wrong and my first instinct was to cross the road and get the hell out of there! Apparently i was the only one thinking that because bright and busy kenyans were looking at the building like it would soon break in dance! I approached one of the onlookers and inquired what was going on, he replied "Nadhania kuna wezi hapo ndani, ebu ngoja tuone"(I think there are robbers in there, lets wait and see). Now again i say i may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but i must say i could find at least one thing wrong with that statement! Why would you want to be near a shoot out!!? Later i read in the newspaper that it was a bomb scare, which in actual fact isnt any better.
Which brings me to the Nakumatt fire. For all of you who dont already know, Nakumatt downtown was raised to the ground!(English!??! Raised to the ground!) In a mysterious fire that gutted the whole building and was still burning 24 hours after the fire started on Wednesday. The fire fighters who are around five minutes away from the building arrived 15 minutes later fully equiped with their 2 out of 5 working fire trucks. "Trucks gives one the illusion thats its those huge fire trucks with ladders and super huge tanks of maji like the one we see in movies but noooooooooo! In Nairobi we have one rickety one im sure from the 1970s and another new land cruiser modified to be a 'fire truck'. Racing down to the rescue! I must say its quite a shame for a huge city like ours would have only two working fire trucks.
And ofcourse as you guessed it, the rescue efforts were hampered by the huge crowd that showed up to view the fire, for them i have no comment considering there were gas cylinders in the building that were exploding every so often.
For the people who died in the inferno, Rest In Peace, for the injured quick recovery and for the bereaved stay strong.

Today!

Alarm rings! Damn, have a 9 o'clock class, its 7am. Head pounding from last nights beer on an empty stomach, never doing that again! One more minute i tell myself and lay back and off to dreamland i go!
Beep beep! An SMS comes in and im startled to consciousness, its 7:45am. Damn!
By 8:15am im through getting ready and at the dinner table perusing an outdated newspaper while munching on my breakfast, Ugali and nyama from jana (angelic music playing here). Damn head is still pounding, have to rehydrate! After drinking like a liter of water, i get my bag and im off to the stage!
I knew Nairobi weather was shifty but waaat! The sun was bright and warm when leaving the house, and it was dry, hell my shoes were dusty as soon as i got out of the gate but 10 minutes later it was drizzling!
Damn im late, so i catch the next jav however rickety and old it is!
9:10am im racing down up the dusty road, i hope the lecturer aint a nut case!
I check into class and lucky me hes just arrived too! I get to a comp and straight to the browser, crap, theyve blocked the internet! Which person in his/her right mind deprives people from getting their fix of Facebook for the day!! what makes my head pound even more is this Obama wanna be lecturer babbling on about just how hard the unit is and we should be very serious! Yeah! Sure.....turn the net back on damn it!!
After 2 hours of pure boredom,im off in search for some hot tea, a female to hold on to would be preferable but well....if wishes were horses id be a mighty good jockey.
The usual bandaz were flattened so we have to make do with tents by the road side on a rainy day and guess what i dont have a sweater, oh bright one huh?
Have to hours to burn till the next class, but unfortunately cant partake in our favorite pass time with my cronies which is to sit along a busy pathway and ogle at girls! :-)
So off to the recreation area where we play some pool and i get down to business and kick some serious ass at chess...
Time flies when you having fun, and soon im back to class with another grammatically, semantically and syntactically incorrect lecturer, luckily thers Facebook and Blogger and thus my predicament....to listen or not to listen!
Stay tuned for a riveting, pulsating, edge of your seat stuff in the next TODAY then....
Lol what a boring and dull day!
